Q The reflective journal is a secure place for you to comment on your clinical experience and discuss any specific issues related to your progress in this leadership role. A monthly journal entry (for a total of four) should include the following information: • A brief overview of the clinical experience for the month and its major activities. • Issues or concerns that arose during the clinical time. • Thoughts or feelings that you experienced, even if the reason for them is not immediately apparent to you. • Recommendations for how you might handle a situation differently (if applicable). • Progress toward your project. • Copy and paste the Baccalaureate Nursing Capstone Record of Clinical Hours document into the Journal and record date, hours, brief description of experience, and running total of hours in the form. Journal entries are due within the following weeks: 4, 8, 11, and 15. Each entry is graded on a scale of 0-100 based on the reflective depth and breadth of the content provided. Please start your journal in a Microsoft Word document and continue each subsequent entry in the same paper. In this manner, the entries will read as a continuous narrative. This journal is a place that only you can write and I can read and comment; feel comfortable to comment freely and discuss sensitive issues. If you need to discuss a patient issue, please remove all identifying patient information from the entry. This is also a place to let your creative thoughts flow...who knows...the nurse leader of the future may lurk just inside of you! At the top is a picture of the reflecting pool in Congress Park, here in Saratoga Springs, NY. I hope it will quiet your mind and inspire you to reflect on where you are heading in your role as a nurse leader.
